I've been on a 15 year journey with bi-polar disorder. Every day is a challenge, but; I'll never give up.
In the beginning, it was really bad. The first thing the medication did was kill my highs. I really needed those. But, I made poor decisions during my manic phase, like spending money I couldn't afford. Then, at some point, the meds took away my ability to read - something I loved. My eyes wouldn't focus on the page. They'd just slide across it at an angle.. It was a nightmare. When a new med started helping, it was like atomic Christmas. Even though I could read, I was still suffering with my bi-polar. I couldn't concentrate, among other things. Then I discovered Japanese Manga. I read tons of them - because I could. It was a pure blessing for me. Later, I picked up with the novels again. Then, I discovered Kindle. For some reason, it is easier for me to read Kindle than print.
So that's a piece of my story. The point of it is to show you that the simple joy of reading a book can be something to hold on to when you feel like you're being swept away. Hold on to every single happiness that comes into your life. Not only are they all precious, but they can help you in your fight against the big ugly.
